EAST VILLAGE, SAN DIEGO – Not one, two, but three strikes you’re out at the Padres’ first game of the season as they take on the Dodgers to kick off 2013! No ball game is complete without a celebration so dust off your cleats and head down to the game early to the 3rd Annual East Village Opening Day Block Party on Thursday April 9th from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. In just three years, the East Village Opening Day Block Party has become aSan Diego tradition inSan Diego’s largest urban neighborhood.
Before heading into Petco Park to see the Padres take on the Dodgers at 3:40 p.m., stop by J Street between 6th and 10th Avenues to enjoy live music, local grub, fresh brews and Red Bulls Jams – Moto Exhibition. This all-ages event features tastes from local restaurants and food trucks, East Village businesses such as Albertson’s, East Village Tavern & Bowl, Grocery Outlet, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, a live broadcast from The Mighty 1090, an interactive game zone, a beverage garden with micro-brews form Stone Brewing Co. and delicious, refreshing and festive cocktails from Svedka vodka and much more!
This FREE community event will have entertainment filling the streets all day long featuring the indie pop sounds of The Yes Team and The Paul Cannon Band from 11:00 AM to Noon and 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., as well as your favorite danceable rock n’ roll hits from Left4Dead from 2:00 p.m. to 3:40 p.m.. At 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. be sure to make your way to J Street between 7th and 8th Avenues to see the trick and flips of professional motocross riders as Red Bull Jams takes over.
This year’s event highlights the tasty trucks and delicious bites that makeSan Diegoa culinary destination. Enjoy food from the likes of Mr. Joey’s Taco Shop and the Super Q Food Truck. A party inSan Diegowithout Mexican food is like baseball without a bat, which is why the East Village Association is so excited for Mr. Joey’s to provide their caliente cuisine at the Block Party! Super Q Food Truck will bring the best hickory smoked BBQ this side of theMississippitoEastVillage. Their All-American BBQ with elements ofNorth Carolina,TexasandSt. Louisstyle flavors and influence seeping in will have your mouth watering and your stomach growling!
Looking for something interactive to do!? Be all you can be in the military area where the Marines will be standing attention at their rock wall. Or head to the Game Zone where you can play carnival type games for prizes. The Mighty 1090 will be broadcasting live inside the block party. There will be something for everyone at the East Village Opening Day Block Party!
