It's Poetry in Ocean, Literally!

Join us for a magical evening under the stars with San Diego Poetry Annual's Michael Klam, a lifelong surfer and poet/artist, as he leads a conversation with a panel of local surfers, poets and creatives who find inspiration in our sunsets, surf, and the sea.

Come, enjoy, participate and take a chance on adding your personal haiku (haiku req. to write on surfboard) to San Diego Public Library's first ever community surfboard! Following the conversation there will be a limited Open Mic where participants will have a maximum of 3 minutes to share their ocean/surf themed poetry. Those who recite a haiku will be eligible to have it included on the Community Surfboard!

The board will be gifted to Un Mar de Colores, a charity-minded organization based in Encinitas that offers free surf lessons and ocean education to youth in marginalized communities.

Legendary surfer and KFMB meteorologist Shawn Styles will start us off with a short keynote speech and San Diego's source for daily surf reports, Scott Bass will be sharing some of his creative morning surf reports.

Joining the panel in conversation:
- Anthony Kim ~ Musician/Surfer
- Cher Pendarvis ~ Poet/Artist/Pioneer Surfer
- Amy Wallen ~ Award Winning Author//Ocean-Climate Advocate
